The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned top celebrities such as Rakul Preet Singh, Rana Daggubati, Puri Jagannadh, and 9 others in connection with a four-year-old drugs case.
Puri Jagannadh, the director of Tollywood films, has been summoned by the ED on September 31, actress Rakul Preet Singh on September 6, and 'Baahubali' actor Rana Daggubati on September 8. The agency has also summoned Telugu actor Ravi Teja for questioning on September 9. According to reports, the financial investigation agency has also summoned Charmme Kaur and Mumaith Khan for questioning on separate dates.
The ED's money laundering investigation is based on an excise and prohibition department case. In July 2017, the Hyderabad Excise And Prohibition Department's Special Investigation Team launched an investigation into Tollywood celebrities and others.
The SIT then collected hair and nail samples from 62 suspects, including the celebrities, but no charges have been filed against any of them so far. SIT has also yet to reveal whether any celebrities were involved in drug trafficking or consumption.
Rafael Alex Victor, a South African national, was also arrested by SIT in August 2017 for allegedly supplying cocaine from Mumbai to Hyderabad.
