Alpha Twitter review: Here's what fans think of Alia Bhatt and Sharvari's YRF spy universe film

Alpha, the first female-led film in the YRF Spy Universe directed by Shiv Rawail, hit theatres on Friday amid high expectations. Starring Alia Bhatt, Sharvari, Bobby Deol and Anil Kapoor, the action thriller has sparked mixed reactions on social media, with audiences praising the lead performances but expressing disappointment over the film's story and screenplay. Hrithik Roshan's surprise cameo has also emerged as one of the biggest crowd-pleasers, while comparisons with Dhurandhar have become inevitable online.

Alia and Sharvari earn praise

Despite the divided verdict, several viewers applauded Alia Bhatt and Sharvari for carrying the film with confidence. Many felt their on-screen chemistry and action sequences stood out in an otherwise uneven narrative.

One X (formerly Twitter) user wrote, "The film briefly comes alive whenever Alia and Sharvari share the frame. Perhaps that's because women facing each other in a full-blooded action film is still uncommon in commercial cinema." However, the user added that the film "never aims beyond the basics and ends up feeling like a quiet, forgettable spy thriller."

Another viewer praised Alia's action scenes, writing, "Alia is brilliant; she nailed every action scene and it looked fantastic on the big screen. Loved the Sharvari x Alia sequence. Far, far better than the last two Spy Universe movies."

Story and screenplay face criticism

While the performances found appreciation, the film's writing drew criticism from a section of the audience. Some viewers called the screenplay inconsistent and lacking the thrill expected from a YRF spy film.

One user wrote, "#Alpha is a BIG JOKE. The story and screenplay are unbearable, with one illogical moment after another. Alia Bhatt never comes across as a convincing spy, making it difficult to invest in the central character. Easily the weakest film in the Spy Universe."

Bobby Deol and Hrithik Roshan win hearts

Bobby Deol's performance also received praise, with one fan calling Alpha "a powerful surprise" and appreciating the emotional storyline alongside the performances of Alia and Bobby. Hrithik Roshan's cameo, meanwhile, has become one of the film's biggest highlights, earning loud cheers from audiences.

Another social media user also appreciated the film for avoiding predictable franchise tropes, saying YRF had finally delivered something different by steering clear of the usual team-up formula. While Alpha has opened to mixed reviews, its performances and surprise moments have ensured it remains one of the most talked-about releases of the week.
