Commonwealth Games 2026: India Wins 39 Medals, Ahmedabad Announced as Host of 2030 Games

India gave a wonderful performance at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, Scotland. The Indian team finished fourth in the overall medal table and returned home with a total of 39 medals. The athletes made the country proud by showing great determination, hard work, and sportsmanship. Their success once again proved that India is becoming one of the strongest sporting nations in the Commonwealth.

India Won 39 Medals At Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow

India won 13 gold medals, 17 silver medals, and 9 bronze medals across events like weightlifting, athletics, boxing, judo, and para powerlifting.

The closing ceremony was a proud and emotional moment for India. During the event, it was officially announced that Ahmedabad, Gujarat, will host the Centenary Commonwealth Games in 2030. This is a historic achievement, as India will once again welcome athletes from Commonwealth nations after many years. As Glasgow bid farewell to the Games, India introduced Ahmedabad to the world through a colourful 20-minute handover presentation.

Spectacular Performances at Commonwealth Games Closing Ceremony

The Indian presentation featured Grammy Award-winning singer Shankar Mahadevan, who performed with his sons Siddharth Mahadevan and Shivam Mahadevan. They sang patriotic songs such as "Vande Mataram," "Ae Watan," "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag," "Lahra Do," and "Sabse Aage Honge Hindustani." Their performance celebrated India's culture, unity, and sporting spirit, and received a warm response from the audience.

Former Miss World Manushi Chhillar was also part of the ceremony and added grace to the presentation. Popular Gujarati singer Bhoomi Trivedi brought the vibrant colours and culture of Gujarat to the stage through her energetic performance.

Another memorable moment of the evening was the musical performance by Indian sitar player Rishab Rikhiram Sharma and Scottish bagpiper Ross Ainslie. They beautifully combined Indian and Scottish music, including a powerful performance of the "Shiv Tandava Stotram." Their performance symbolised the handover of the Commonwealth Games from Scotland to India and was appreciated by everyone present.

As the Games came to an end, India celebrated one of its best-ever performances in Glasgow. The country finished with 39 medals, making every Indian proud. With Ahmedabad now preparing to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, India is ready to create another memorable chapter in the history of the Games, both as a successful sporting nation and as a welcoming host.
