Jana Nayagan movie: Vijay's last film hits theatres, fans call it 'One Last Dance'
Tamil Nadu has always shared a special bond with film stars. Over the years, some of the state's biggest actors have entered politics and even become Chief Ministers. Nearly five decades ago, legendary actor MG Ramachandran (MGR) made the successful journey from cinema to politics. In 2026, actor Vijay followed the same path and became the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
Now, Vijay’s final film, Jana Nayagan, has finally released in theatres across India, making it a memorable day for millions of fans. Since Vijay has stepped away from acting to focus on politics, many fans are calling this release his "one last dance" on the big screen.
Producer Shares His Happiness
Producer Venkat K. Narayana expressed his joy after watching the film’s first-day first show at Chennai’s Vettri Theatre in Chromepet.
He said the film has been released on the largest number of screens across the country and now "belongs to the people." He thanked audiences for their love and support and said the entire team is excited to see viewers enjoy the movie.
Narayana also admitted that bringing the film to theatres was not easy. The team faced many legal and logistical challenges before the release. However, he said they are now focused on giving audiences the best theatrical experience possible.
Several References to MGR
The makers of Jana Nayagan have included many tributes to former actor and Chief Minister MGR. One of Vijay’s introduction scenes features MGR, and Vijay is also seen singing a few lines from the famous song "Naan Aanayittal" from MGR’s 1965 film Enga Veetu Pillai.
These moments have added an emotional touch to the film, especially because Vijay has now entered politics just like MGR.
Fans Call It an Emotional Goodbye
The atmosphere inside theatres has been filled with excitement and emotion. Fans have been cheering loudly during Vijay’s scenes while also feeling sad that this could be the last time they see him in a movie.
Producer Narayana said watching fans celebrate the film while knowing it is Vijay’s final release made the moment very emotional for everyone involved.
Long Journey Before Release
Jana Nayagan was originally scheduled to release before Pongal on January 9. However, the film was delayed due to legal issues, production hurdles, and piracy concerns.
Directed by H. Vinoth, the film features music by Anirudh Ravichander and is a remake of the Telugu hit Bhagavanth Kesari, starring Nandamuri Balakrishna. For many fans, Jana Nayagan is more than just a movie. It is a farewell to one of Tamil cinema’s biggest stars as Vijay begins a new chapter in public life as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
