Rapper and singer Honey Singh summoned again by Maharashtra cyber cell over concert remarks

Rapper and singer Yo Yo Honey Singh has found himself at the centre of a fresh legal development, with the Maharashtra Cyber Cell asking him to appear for questioning on October 16. The latest notice comes after the singer failed to attend an earlier scheduled session and reportedly requested more time to appear before the investigating officials. The case is linked to alleged objectionable remarks made during a concert in Delhi, which later sparked a debate on social media.

According to reports, the authorities have indicated that further action may follow if Honey Singh does not appear on the new date. Officials may begin the process of issuing a Look Out Circular (LOC), a measure that can help authorities track a person's movement in accordance with applicable procedures.

What Is the Case Against Honey Singh?

The controversy began after a video clip from Honey Singh's Delhi concert went viral online. In the clip, the singer allegedly made an indecent reference to having sex in cars. The remarks drew criticism from several social media users, prompting a complaint to be filed with the cyber police. A case was subsequently registered, and the singer was summoned to record his statement.

Honey Singh has reportedly missed three earlier summons, with his stay abroad cited as a reason for not appearing. He also sought additional time after failing to attend the October 5 questioning session. The upcoming appearance on October 16 is now an important development in the ongoing investigation.

Honey Singh's Apology After the Controversy

Following the online backlash, Honey Singh released a video apology, expressing regret over the way his message was communicated. He maintained that he had no intention of hurting or insulting anyone and explained that he had attempted to connect with a younger audience using language he thought they would understand.

However, he acknowledged that his choice of words was inappropriate and unacceptable to many people. In his apology, the singer said he deeply regretted the way he had expressed himself and offered his heartfelt apologies to those who felt offended.

His response addressed the public criticism, while the complaint and subsequent investigation continued through the legal process.

Earlier Court Proceedings Over Song Lyrics

This is not the first time Honey Singh has faced legal scrutiny over content associated with his music. In April, the Delhi High Court directed the Centre to remove links to his song Volume 1 from social media and file-sharing platforms.

During the hearing, the court described the track as highly vulgar, obscene and derogatory towards women. It also observed that artistic freedom and freedom of expression cannot be used to justify content of this nature.

The proceedings brought renewed attention to the responsibilities that accompany creative expression, particularly for artists whose work reaches a large audience.
