Cannes Film Festival 2024: Major Sneak Peek at the Premieres and Prestigious Jury Lineup

When things are discussed about the biggest film festivals, Cannes is one of the most sought-after film festivals globally which is held annually at Cannes City, France giving every upcoming film from the world a platform to be premiered including documentaries. This year too, the French Riviera is coming back with the enthralling festival, 77th edition in the ongoing month that has been slatted to be commence from 14th May to 25th May 2024. Recently, during a press conference, its artistic director Thierry Frémaux, and the president of the festival, Iris Knobloch has unveiled it's starry lineup which indeed caught the attention of the masses.

Films to be premiered at Cannes 2024 

As per the reports, Quentin Dupieux’s latest film 'The Second Act' has been roped off to open the festival on Wednesday 15. The starry long list also includes Francis Ford Coppola’s self-financed movie 'Megalopolis' which will be premiered on Wednesday, 17th May which will also compete for its glorifying title Palme d'Or. Kevin Costner’s highly anticipated western Horizon: An American Saga is listed to be premiered on Friday, 19th May.

George Lucas to be honored with Palme d'Or

One of the most awaited events of the upcoming ceremony has to be, George Lucas, the Star Wars creator who will be honored with the Palme d'Or. Meanwhile, it was Harrison Ford, who was given the same distinction last year inside the huge Théâtre Lumière during the premiere of 'Indiana Jones' and the 'Dial of Destiny.' Feeling overwhelmed by the honorary, Lucas expressed his gratitude as he said, "The Festival de Cannes has always held a special place in my heart. I was surprised and elated when my first film, THX-1138, was selected to be shown in a new program for first-time directors called the Directors’ Fortnight. Since then, I have returned to the festival on many occasions in a variety of capacities as a writer, director, and producer. I am truly honored by this special recognition which means a great deal to me."

Meanwhile, Greta Gerwig will become the attention of the cinema realms as she will embark as the president of the Cannes jury, followed by the global acclamation for her film 'Barbie'. Revealing the news during the recently held press conference, Knobloch quipped "It's a great joy to welcome her this year, and that she accepted this responsibility." As per the Cannes president, the filmmaker embodies the energy and spirit of the festival. , she regards cinema with just 'love and respect.' "She is full of life and talent," says Knobloch.

Indian attendees at Cannes 2024

Meanwhile, being the globe's biggest film festival, it ropes off attendees from almost every nook and corner of the globally placed film industries and Bollywood is no exception. Among the many Indian dignitaries, actresses like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Aditi Rao Hydari give most of the headlines and their return to the French Riviera has been confirmed for this year too. Interestingly, Aishwarya Rai has been attending the prestigious festival ever since the early 2000s and was also a member of the Cannes jury in 2003. In fact her looks on the Cannes red carpet are one of the most sought-after topic during that time of the month as it has successfully made people's jaw dropped with the enthralling fashionable take. Meanwhile, Aditi Rao has made her Cannes debut in 2022 and her looks became some hot sensation too.
