The verdict, reached after over four hours of deliberation across three days by a six-person jury, has serious consequences for the actor. Majors could face up to a year in jail, prompting Marvel Studios to sever its ties with him. This decision led to his removal from a prime role in Marvel's superhero blockbusters, including the upcoming film "Avengers: The Kang Dynasty," scheduled for release in 2025.
The incident that led to Majors' arrest occurred in March in New York City, where he assaulted Jabbari in the backseat of a private vehicle. Jabbari, a 30-year-old dancer who met Majors on the set of Marvel's "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania," claimed that she took Majors' phone after discovering a text message from another woman. In the ensuing struggle to retrieve his phone, Majors delivered a forceful blow to Jabbari's head, causing bruises, swelling, and significant pain.
During the court proceedings, Majors was found not guilty on one count of intentional assault in the third degree and one count of aggravated harassment in the second degree. However, he now faces the possibility of imprisonment with a sentence date set for February 6, though probation is also a potential alternative.
Upon hearing the guilty verdict, Majors, dressed in a dark grey suit, sat in the courtroom with his attorneys and his current girlfriend, Meagan Good, without visibly reacting. The judge's decision to drop him from Marvel projects underscores the serious consequences of the legal outcome for the actor, whose role as Kang the Conqueror in Disney's Marvel Cinematic Universe has come to an abrupt end.
