Why Diljit Dosanjh refused to become the ‘New Face’ of Punjab politics?
Diljit Dosanjh's take on Punjab Politics: Actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh may proudly represent Punjab across the world, but he has no plans to step into politics. The popular star recently responded to an appeal asking him to become the “new face” of Punjab politics, and his answer was short and clear “never.”
According to reports, a newspaper advertisement urged Diljit to take up a political role in Punjab. However, Diljit Dosanjh made it crystal clear that his focus remains on entertaining people. Replying on X, he wrote, “Kadey v Nhi..Mera Kam Entertainment Karna. Am Very Happy in My Field. Thank You So Much.”
The discussion around Diljit entering politics comes shortly after Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay made headlines with his party TVK’s impressive victory in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. With more film stars entering public life, many fans and supporters wondered if Diljit would also consider a political journey. However, the Punjabi star appears completely committed to his career in entertainment.

Recently, Diljit appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon hosted by Jimmy Fallon, where he spoke emotionally about the history of Indians in Canada. Recalling the struggles faced by early Punjabi immigrants, he connected it to his successful Vancouver concert.

He said, “That stadium we did in Vancouver…like 1914, our people came first time in Canada, they didn’t allow us to come and go to Canada. And that stadium is just two kilometres away from the Guru Nanak Jahaz Komagata Maru incident. So, it’s a big thing for us now, 55,000 people in the one stadium there, just two kilometres away, you didn’t allow us to come. And now, here we are, man. So, that’s why it’s amazing.”
Diljit also grabbed attention during one of his concerts when protesters waved pro-Khalistani flags in the crowd. Addressing them directly, he said, “If you still have an issue that I sat across someone on television…jinne jhande dikhane dilkhai challo.” His response quickly went viral on social media and sparked strong reactions online.
On the professional front, Diljit Dosanjh was last seen in Border 2, which released in January and reportedly crossed Rs 400 crore at the worldwide box office.
The actor is now gearing up for Main Vaapas Aaunga, directed by Imtiaz Ali. The project reunites the duo after their successful collaboration on Amar Singh Chamkila. The upcoming film is described as a moving tale of love and separation, centred around two lovers torn apart during the Partition of India in 1947.
