Pathaan songs: On December 29, Prasoon Joshi, the head of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), said that the organisation has instructed the makers of Pathaan to make "changes" to the film, including its songs. An updated version of the spy action thriller must be submitted by the movie's production company, Yash Raj Films, in compliance with the board's rules.

"The movie recently made it to the CBFC certification examination committee. According to CBFC rules, the movie underwent a complete and unbiased examination process. The committee has recommended the filmmakers to include the suggested changes into the movie, including the songs, and submit the amended edit before it is released in theatres."

Further, Joshi stated that "CBFC is always dedicated to finding the correct balance between artistic expression and audience sensibility and feel that we can always find a solution via meaningful communication amongst all stakeholders."

After the song "Besharam Rang," which features Shah Rukh and Deepika, was released on December 12, Pathaan courted criticism. Due to a scene in the song where Deepika was wearing a saffron bikini, there were demands to boycott the movie for supposedly offending "Hindu emotions."

An FIR should be registered against Shah Rukh, Deepika, and others for "hurting religious emotions" of Hindus in "Besharam Rang," according to a complaint earlier this month that was brought before the district court of Muzaffarpur, Bihar.
