'Ponniyin Selvan 1' set for bumper opening at box office

Ponniyin Selvan advance booking: 'Ponniyin Selvan 1' is a two-part historical drama, based on Kalki's book of the same title. Mani Ratnam's upcoming magnum opus is one of the most anticipated films of the year which stars Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Rai, Trisha Krishnan, and others.

As per the reports, the film has already minted Rs 1 crore with its advance booking. Likewise, it is believed that the film will have a very successful opening weekend, at least for the Tamil version.

The movie had sold 78,000 seats by midday and made Rs 1.46 crore, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. A total of Rs 1.37 crore and about Rs 9 lakh from the Tamil and Telugu versions, respectively.

Prior to its release, the film is likely to surpass the Rs 10-crore, if the craze for the film continues to grow.

The historical drama 'Ponniyin Selvan', features Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Rai, and Trisha Krishnan in key roles.

Meanwhile, the film will be released in Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam. Later this week, probably by Wednesday, the advance reservations for various language versions will go on sale.

Advance tickets for the film went on sale over the weekend in other markets, and business is growing as well. Ramesh Bala, a trade expert, tweeted on Sunday that the movie had already made $400,000 which is about Rs. 3.25 crore in ticket sales solely in the United States. Pre-booking is also gaining widespread statistics in Singapore.

'Ponniyin Selvan 1' will be released in theaters on September 30.
