Ponniyin Selvan trailer: Mani Ratnam's period drama promises insight of greatest Chola empire

'Ponniyin Selvan' movie cast, trailer, release date: The much-awaited 'Ponniyin Selvan 1' trailer was released on September 6. Mani Ratnam's magnum opus revolves around the Chola Dynasty and features Chiyaan Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Sobhita Dhulipala, and Prakash Raj, and others in significant roles.

The film offers a spectacular rendition of the events that allowed the Chola dynasty to establish itself as a dominant empire in the Southern subcontinent in the 10th century.

'Ponniyin Selvan' movie cast

The film features Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prabhu, R Sarathkumar, Vikram Prabhu, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Rahman and Radhakrishnan Parthiban in pivotal roles.

To note, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will be seen playing a dual character in the film.

'Ponniyin Selvan' movie trailer

The film's various individuals are introduced in the Kamal Haasan-voiced trailer, which also explains the history of the Chola empire. The opening scene of the video also shows a magnificent kingdom in the background.

'Ponniyin Selvan' appears to be nothing less than an incredible adrenaline bonanza with its breathtaking locations, deadly warfare, and magnificent majesty.

'Ponniyin Selvan' movie release date

Ponniyin Selvan is written by Elango Kumaravel, B. Jeyamohan, and Mani Ratnam, who also directed the film. Produced by Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions, the movie is based on the 1955 novel Ponniyin Selvan by Kalki Krishnamurthy. The film's music was composed by AR Rahman.

Previously intended to be a solo movie, Ponniyin Selvan was eventually divided into two parts. Being a pan-India movie, it will be released in —Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada and will be released in theatres on September 30.
