President Ram Nath Kovind greets the Naval personnel on the occasion of Indian Navy Day

In operation trident during the war of 1971, the Indian Navy’s victory is celebrated on Navy Day. In the war, Pakistan's vessels were heavily damaged as for the first time anti-ship missile was used.

The success of ‘Operation Trident’ was then marked as Navy Day by the Indian Navy in the year 1971. On the special occasion, President Ram Nath Kovind including other senior persons greeted the Navy personnel and their families.

President Kovind tweeted with special greetings writing, “On Navy Day, greetings to all Navy personnel, veterans and their families. Besides safeguarding maritime security and protecting our interests in the sea, our Navy also played a stellar role in coping with the COVID-19 related crisis. Indians remain grateful for your service.”

Other than this, Defence minister Rajnath Singh also congratulated the navy and mentioned them as an ‘outstanding force protecting the national interest’.

He wrote in his tweet, “On this special day commemorating Indian Navy’s daring ‘Operation Trident’ during #1971War, my greetings and best wishes to all personnel of this outstanding force which continues to protect our National Interest through Maritime Security.”

In the Indo-Pak war of 1971 on December 4, the Indian Navy bombed the Karachi Harbour playing an imperative role-taking forward the ‘Operation Trident’. The success of the day was named Navy Day and since then it is celebrated on December 4.

Amit Shah, the Union home minister also wished the Navy writing, “Greetings to our brave Indian Navy personnel and their families on the special occasion of #NavyDay. The nation is proud of our valorous Naval force for their commitment towards securing India's maritime interests and helping the countrymen during civil emergencies. Greetings to our brave Indian Navy personnel and their families on the special occasion of #NavyDay.”

Pakistan’s vessels were heavily damaged in the Operation by the Indian Navy. In this operation and during the war, for the first time, an Anti-slip missile ship was used.

In the war, almost 300 soldiers died and 700+ were injured during the operation. In the war, almost four Pakistani Vessels were damaged including the Karachi Harbour fuel fields.
