Sonia Mann stands in support of the muslim girl following the Hijab controversy

Sonia Mann, a Punjabi actress, has opted to wear the hijab as a protest and travel to Amargarh, a tiny village near Malerkotla, with Muslim women for a march to oppose the dress code in Karnataka.

The Punjabi actress has shown support for the women and girls who want to wear Hijab following the ongoing Hijab controversy in Karnataka.

Earlier she stated that she will take part in a protest which was planned in Malerkotla, which is the only town in Punjab with a significant Muslim population.

She has previously spoken out against farm restrictions and taken part in a farmer's demonstration near the Delhi border.

In an increasing debate over hijab regulations in the classroom, schools and universities were closed earlier this week. Protests against a hijab ban in one government-run college in Udupi quickly spread to other institutions where girls wearing hijabs were barred from entering. As parallel protests by saffron scarf-wearing students erupted, police at one college were forced to use teargas to keep the situation under control.

On social media, Sonam Kapoor responded to the Karnataka hijab controversy. She inquired as to why a hijab isn't an option when a turban is. The ban on the hijab in schools and colleges enacted by the Karnataka government has sparked widespread outrage and protests across the state.
