Malayalam film industry mourns the sudden demise of veteran actor Mamukkoya

Renowned Malayalam actor Mamukkoya passed away on April 26, 2023, due to a sudden heart attack. He was 76 years old. Mamukkoya had a long and illustrious career in the film industry. He started his acting career in the 1970s and went on to appear in over 400 films in a career spanning more than four decades. He worked with some of the biggest names in the industry and was a part of many successful films.

Some of his most popular movies include "Pattanapravesham", "Nadodikkattu", "Kilukkam", "Kottayam Kunjachan", "Manichitrathazhu", and many more. Mamukkoya was known for his ability to portray a wide range of characters and was equally skilled in both comic and serious roles.

According to reports, Mamukkoya had participated in a football-related event before he suffered a sudden heart attack. He was immediately rushed to a hospital in Kozhikode where he was treated in the emergency ward. Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of the doctors, he could not be saved and passed away.

The news of Mamukkoya's demise has sent shockwaves throughout the Malayalam film industry. Chief Minister of Kerala Pinarayi Vijayan expressed his condolences to the family and tweeted, "Mamukkoya, with his lively and novel on-screen performances, has enthralled film lovers across Kerala for decades. His sudden demise is a big loss to the industry, the world of art and the state’s public sphere. Joining the grief of family, friends, and the film world."

Many of his co-stars and friends from the industry also took to social media to express their grief and pay tribute to the legendary actor. Film critic Sreedhar Pillai tweeted, "Mamukkoya (77), one of the finest comedy actors ever in Malayalam cinema passed away.
