Mixed Reviews for Ravanasura: Is Ravi Teja Enough to Carry the Film?

Ravi Teja, the Mass Maharaja of Telugu cinema, returns with Ravanasura, a crime thriller directed by Sudheer Varma, which boasts an ensemble cast. The film released on April 7, 2023, and promised to stun the audience with unexpected elements and shocking twists.

Story:

Kanaka Mahalaxmi (Faria Abdullah) is a well-known lawyer and Ravi Teja's character Ravindra works for her as a junior. Harika (Megha Akash) wants Kanaka Mahalaxmi to take up her father's murder case, in which he is the accused. In the meantime, Ravindra got attracted towards Harika and requests his boss to handle the case. As the investigation progresses, the police uncover a string of murders that have occurred in the same pattern, leading to the question of who is responsible and how the victims are connected. Ravanasura offers answers to these mysteries.

Positives:

  • Ravi Teja's outstanding performance shows his versatility as an actor.

  • The initial few minutes are light-hearted and entertaining, after which his character undergoes a transformation that intrigues the audience.

  • Ravi Teja plays a grey-shaded character with conviction and is menacing in a few scenes, which will surely elicit whistles from the audience.

  • The first half has a decent blend of comedy and thriller elements.

  • The movie picks up pace after the entry of Sushanth, and the proceedings from thereon will keep the audience invested.

  • All five female characters play their respective roles well, with Megha Akash getting more prominence.

Where Movie Lacked:

  • Ravanasura fails to meet expectations, as the movie's twist in the second half is a routine plot that has been seen in many old films despite marketing as having a unique concept.

  • The second half becomes predictable after some point.

  • The songs act as speed breakers, affecting the film's flow.

  • Logics go for a toss, which is something that thrillers cannot afford.

  • Ravi Teja's performance is impressive, but there isn't enough substance in the plot for the audience to remain engaged throughout.

What Twitter Users Have to Say About The Film:

Other Aspects:

Harshavardhan Rameshwar and Bheems Ceciroleo's background score is fantastic and elevates some scenes, while Vijay Karthik's splendid cinematography complements the film's genre. The editing is also well-done, and the production values are impressive.

Final Conclusion:

Ravanasura's success largely depends on the versatile acting skills of Ravi Teja. The movie's first hour keeps the audience engaged, and Ravi Teja's performance leaves a lasting impression. However, the film's second half is executed poorly, and the plot twist fails to deliver the anticipated impact. Although the movie is watchable, it is recommended not to have high expectations.
