Waterlogging and Evacuations

The Hindon River, a tributary of the Yamuna, has been experiencing unprecedented flooding, leading to extensive waterlogging in various parts of Noida and Ghaziabad. Notable areas like Chhijarsi Colony, Chotpur, Babita Vihar Colony, and 25 Foota Buddha Vihar have witnessed houses submerged along the river's banks, prompting authorities to undertake urgent evacuations. Residents from these regions, along with other settlements such as Bahlolpur, Purana Haibatpur, Soharkha, and many more, have been relocated to safer locations away from the rising waters. In total, over ten villages in Greater Noida alone have been affected, compounding the scale of the disaster.

The mounting water levels have taken a toll on infrastructure, including the power supply network in the region. More than five hundred consumers residing in villages and settlements near the Hindon River have endured power outages as a result. Noida's power department has been working diligently to inspect submerged regions and ensure the safety of both residents and utility personnel. Rajeev Mohan, the Chief Engineer of the Power Department, has issued directives to disconnect power supply in vulnerable areas like Chotpur and Bahlolpur, where water has infiltrated kachha colonies, posing additional hazards to human life.

One poignant instance of the devastating impact of the floods is evident at Sutiyanag village, where the yard of an app-based cab booking company lies submerged in 4 to 5 feet of water. Tragically, this has resulted in over 300 vehicles being completely inundated. The company in question, Ola, had rented the yard as an unauthorized establishment, operating in a vulnerable area without the requisite permissions. The District Magistrate, Manish Kumar, has confirmed the illegal nature of the yard, necessitating the evacuation of residents from nearby regions in order to ensure their safety.
