In a horrifying incident, over 60 people were crushed to death by a train while watching the burning of a Ravana effigy in Amritsar on October 19. The train was coming from Jalandhar to Amritsar when the incident occurred at Joda Phatak where at least 300 people were watching ‘Ravana Dahan’ at a ground near the tracks.

People standing on the tracks did not realise that the Jalandhar-Amritsar DMU passenger train, coming to Amritsar from Hoshiarpur, was approaching fast due to the noise of the firecrackers during the burning effigy.
