With excitement surrounding Alpha reaching new heights, Alia Bhatt recently shared a special moment with India's newest sporting hero, Gurindervir Singh. The sprinting sensation, who made history by clocking an incredible 10.09 seconds to become the fastest Indian ever, sat down with the actress for a heartfelt conversation filled with memories, emotions and celebrations.
From talking about his father's sacrifices and the dream that inspired him to take up athletics to recalling the setbacks that nearly made him quit, Gurindervir's first interaction with Alia was both inspiring and deeply personal. The memorable meeting even featured a sweet surprise, as Alia celebrated his achievement with his favourite motichoor laddoos.
From Cleaning His Father's Medals To Creating HistoryAs the conversation began, Gurindervir shared what it takes to stay ahead of the competition.
Gurinvinder: "Sabse aage, sabse tez hone ke liye lagta hai focus, lagan aur hard work. Ready?" Introducing the athlete, Alia praised his record-breaking achievement and referred to him as the "Alpha of the running track."
Alia: "Toh aaj mere saath hai ek aise athlete, India ki shaan, at a record-breaking 10.09 secs, the Alpha of the running track, Gurindervir Singh. Aapne kab decide kiya ki mujhe India ka sabse tez athlete banna hai?"
Gurindervir revealed that his sporting dreams began at home, inspired by his father's achievements and later fueled by watching sprint legend Usain Bolt.
Gurinvinder: "Father ki trophies hoti thi, medals hote the, toh main usko saaf karta tha. Unki ek photo bhi thi, usmein woh jump kar rahe hai, volleyball khel rahe hain. Sochta tha ki main bhi ek din aise jump karunga, fir maine Usain Bolt ka world record dekha, fir main socha main athletics karunga. Toh bole bhi isme bohot mehnat lagti hai, bohot mehnat karni padegi. Maine kahaan koi nahi, main ready hoon iske liye."
How His Father's Unfinished Dream Became His MissionThe conversation soon turned emotional when Alia spoke about the injury that brought his father's volleyball career to an abrupt end. Alia: "Papa ko ek injury hui thi, unke volleyball career mein, jis wajah se unhe chhodna pada. Toh us time par aapko yaad hai, unko kaise laga tha?"
Gurindervir shared how his father's disappointment eventually became the driving force behind his own journey. Gurinvinder: "Jab ek-do peg lagate the, toh bolte the ki agar main karta rehta game, toh shayad main aaj kuch aur hota. Phir woh mera sapna ban gaya. Toh jab maine race finish ki, main unko call kiya pehla, bola daddy ab batao kaisa lag raha hai? Kehre mazaa aa gaya."
The Sacrifices That Built A ChampionWhen Alia asked whether his father was actively involved in his early years as an athlete, Gurindervir didn't hesitate to acknowledge the sacrifices made by his family.
Alia: "Woh kaafi involved the aapke starting journey mein?" Gurinvinder: "Woh itne zyada involved the ki unhone apne liye kabhi kuch liya hi nahi." He also recalled some cherished memories, including the first pair of spikes his father arranged for him from New Zealand.
Gurinvinder: "Jab daddy kaam se aate the, unhone mere liye khana banana. Sabse favourite chef mere daddy hain, unse tasty khana koi nahi bana sakta. Toh pehle mere spikes the woh New Zealand se daddy leke aaye the, unke brother New Zealand mein hai, toh usko main neeche bhi rakhne nahi deta tha. Main kehta tha yeh table par rahenge, isko neeche nahi rakhega koi."
The Setback That Almost Ended His JourneyBehind every success story lies a period of struggle, and for Gurindervir, 2024 proved to be one of the toughest phases of his career.
Alia: "Injuries toh huye honge, maine padha bhi tha ki aapne 2024 mein you’ve faced a bit of a setback?"
The athlete candidly spoke about the moment when he doubted whether he would be able to continue, and how his mother became the family's pillar of strength.
Gurinvinder: "Hamari aisi situation aa gayi thi ki main bol raha tha, "Daddy pata nahi kar paunga ke nahi kar paunga," daddy bol rahe the, "Tu waapis aa ja ghar pe, kuch aur soch lenge, tu aaja, waapis aa ja." Us time meri mummy ne hum dono ko strong kiya ki koi nahi, agar mushkil time aa gaya hai, bhagwan par bharosa rakho, yeh nikal jayega."
The Change That Helped Him Reach The TopAlia also asked the athlete about the turning point that transformed his career and eventually led him to become India's fastest man. "2025 mein aisa kya kiya alag thats brought you here today?" said Alia.
Gurindervir credited the support system and facilities he found after joining Reliance Foundation. "Main Reliance Foundation join kiya, jo bachpan se main chaah raha tha, woh mujhe idhar aake mila. Acchi weight training, accha atmosphere, acchi diet, yeh sab jo main lack kar raha tha, mere ko ek jagah par mila. Nita Ambani ma'am ka main thank you karna chahunga jinhone yeh foundation shuru kiya."
Alia's Sweet Surprise And A Special GiftThe highlight of the interaction came when Alia surprised the sprinter with motichoor laddoos to celebrate his record-breaking achievement. Alia: "Aapko motichoor ke laddoo bahut pasand hain, aaj hum aapke liye laaye hain." Clearly delighted, Gurindervir responded: "Aaj poora khaunga! Aur ma'am hamari team ki taraf se, hamare Alphas ki taraf se. (gives her the jersey) Ek ne likha hai, follow me."
The athlete also gifted Alia a jersey from his team, making the moment even more memorable.
Touched by the gesture, Alia said: "This is such a lovely thing. Thank you so much. Aapse baat karke bahut hi accha laga." Before wrapping up, Gurindervir left everyone smiling with a humorous remark. Gurinvinder: "2026 mein maine aapko milna tha, nahi toh main pehle milta toh mere se baatein hi nahi hoti itni."
