Singer – actor Diljit Dosanjh, is known for crooning hit bhangra numbers like ‘Lak 28 Kudi Da’, ‘Proper Patola’, ‘5 Taara’ among others. The versatile artist of Punjab turns 36 today, on January 6. From being a village boy of Jalandhar district, Diljit has came a long way to stardom.

Diljit spent his early childhood in Dosanjh Kalan and then moved to Ludhiana to complete his formal education. Here are some lesser known facts about the singer actor.

Diljit started his singing career at a very young age. While he was still in School, he began his singing career by performing kirtan at local Gurudwara. Diljit knew what he wanted to be from the very beginning.

Diljit’s originally named as ‘Daljit’. When he released his first album in 2000, he changed the spelling of his name from Daljit to Diljit, on the suggestion of the music director who helped him make his debut in the Punjabi music industry.

Diljit is an active social worker, owing to his Non-Government Organisation (NGO), Saanjh Foundation. The organization aims to work with underprivileged children and underprivileged seniors. It works on relevant issues such as self-confidence, career development and mentoring.

His album ‘Back2Basics’ won him 3 Brit Asia TV Music Awards. He won the award for Best International Act, Best Album and Best Bhangra Single for song ‘Kharku’.

Diljit’s film ‘Jatt And Juliet’ changed the phase of his career, as he established himself as a wholesome entertainer. Meanwhile, his performance in ‘Punjab 1984’ made him a versatile actor, who can also pull off tough roles.

Diljit Dosanjh became the first turbaned figure in Madame Tussauds in New Delhi on March 28.
