Singer-rapper Hard Kaur is known for crooning hit songs like ‘Laung  Da Lashkara’, ‘Char Baj Gaye’, ‘Move Your Body’ among others. The ‘Ek Glassy’ fame singer is celebrating her 40th birthday today on July 29.  Born in Kanpur, Hard Kaur became a sensational rapper and hip-hop singer in UK.

Here are some lesser known facts about Hard Kaur, who struggled her way to the industry:

Born as Taran Kaur Dhillon in Kanpur, Hard Kaur lost her father during the 1984 Sikh riots.

She refused to sit back and be bullied when she moved to UK with her stepfather. She raised her voice against domestic violence and beat her stepfather at the age of 14 for beating her mother.

Hard Kaur was introduced to hip-hop at the age of 14, and she was instantly in love with it. She felt liberated with it, as hip-hop gave her voice.

Hard Kaur released her first single at the age of 16. Gradually she paved her way to the Hindi music industry. She made her Bollywood singing debut with the song ‘Move Your Body’ in 2007 for the film ‘Johnny Gaddar’.

The singer lost her younger brother in 2015, which shook her to do something for the society.

Hard Kaur took an initiative to help young hip hop artists for them to make it in the industry.

Apparently she is the first Indian female rapper, as she is the only female singer who raps in the Hindi music industry.

Hard Kaur has given some amazing groovy songs like ‘Fully Faltu’, ‘Move Your Body Now’, ‘Peeney Do’ among other song to the Punjabi music lovers.
