Jimmy was born as Jasjit Singh Gill to a Punjabi Jatt Sikh family in Gorakhpur district of Uttar Pradesh.
After completing his schooling, graduation, and post-graduation from Punjab, he moved to Mumbai to try his luck in the film industry.

The actor stepped into the acting industry with the 1996 Hindi thriller film ‘Maachis’. Even though the film did commercially well, his performance didn’t gain much fame.
