History! Jasjit Singh Becomes First Turbaned Soldier To Represent Australian Army On Anzac Day

Jasjit Singh, an Army Reserve Combat engineer, has created history after he becomes the first turbaned sapper to represent the Australian Army during the Anzac Day on April 25.

According to the SBS news website, Jasjit Singh created history on April 25 as he was the first and only turban-wearing sapper who was the part of the Catafalque Party that slow-marched to the historic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) ahead of the annual Anzac Day match on April 25.

“It was an honour and an incredible opportunity to have been formed part of the Catafalque Party that allowed me to represent the Australian Army and the Sikhs at the same time,” Sapper Jasjit Singh said in an interview with SBS Punjabi.

What is Anzac day?

Anzac Day takes place each year on April 25 and it refers to the soldiers who served in the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. Every year, thousands of people join together to pay tribute to soldiers "who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations."
