Preet Kaur Gill is Britain’s first Sikh woman serving as a Member of Parliament (MP) since 2017. Preet is a British Labour Co-operative politician. She has made the whole Sikh community proud by being the first Sikh woman to stood up as the Labour and Co-operative candidate to be elected as MP with a majority of votes.

Britain’s first Sikh woman MP was born and brought up in Birmingham to Daljit Singh Shergill and Kuldeep Kaur Shergill. Daljit Singh served as a president of the Guru Nanak Gurudwara in Smethwick for the longest time. Meanwhile, Preet credits her father for inspiring her to enter the world of politics.

However, Preet’s extended family lives in Jalandhar as her father moved out to settle in UK in 1962.

Preet has also served as a board member of the Sikh network.
