The Alameda County of California has finally got its first Indian Sikh police officer, who wears a turban. Jujhar Singh is the only one of his fellows who wears turban and not a hat.

To leading news daily, Jujhar said, “I have a turban and a beard. I’ve always had a turban; I’ve never cut my hair.” He is now proudly wearing an article of his faith, along with the badge of the Police officer in Alameda County, California.

Congratulating Jujhar for his achievement, the Sikh community feels proud of making his dream come true, following his believes.

What a great accomplishment for Officer Singh. His family and our Sikh community should be very proud. We look forward to working with him. Congrats. @HaywardPD https://t.co/5qOkMEPhYv

Singh says he and his family are proud to be Sikh. It's part of who he is and part of his upbringing. He says he knows the public might not be used to seeing an officer who looks like him.

Singh and five newly-minted Hayward officers are among 54 graduates of the 167th Alameda County Sheriff's Academy. The six will hit the streets of Hayward in a couple of weeks as part of field training.

Reportedly, he had dreamt of it when he was just 10 year old and he worked hard to achieve it.

Meanwhile, there have been Sikh officers in the bay area but a turbaned one will be a rare sight for the public.
