Punjabis This Week: Meet Visually Impaired Runner Amarjeet Singh Chawla
62-year-old visually-impaired runner, Amarjeet Singh Chawla is making Punjabis proud all over the world as he has completed 101 runs in his illustrious career so far. Out of the 101 races, 83 were marathons.
Amarjeet Singh Chawla lost his eyesight at the age of 40 and ran his first marathon at 48 in 2004. His first appearance on track was in 7-km dream run. During his inaugural run, he was escorted by former Indian captain Kapil Dev.

Since his first run, Amarjeet Singh Chawla has featured in about 101 running competitions and has won medals and trophies almost every year.
Apart from running, Chawla has also won the gold medal for 50-metre freestyle at the All India Swimming competition. Interestingly, he is also the only visually impaired person to have scaled the 19,830-feet Dolma Pass in Tibet.
