The Sino-Indian War, a border conflict between India and China that took place in 1962 is considered to be one major reason that resulted in sweeping changes in the Indian military to prepare it for similar conflicts in the future. Even though this war had India on the receiving end, it did forge many heroes whose acts immortalised them in the annals of history. One such braveheart, who drove back the Chinese troops when they were heading to conquer Tawang on 23 October 1962 was Subedar Joginder Singh Sahnan who led his troops in the face of the enemy and fought until becoming wounded and later died in Chinese captivity.
