Released in 2002, Ajay Devgn starrer ‘The Legend Of Bhagat Singh’ is one of the best patriotic movies ever made in Bollywood. Based on the life of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh who sacrificed his life for the freedom of our country. Bhagat Singh, who was just 23 year old, was hanged to death along with Sukhdev Thapar and Shivaram Rajguru by the British Government on March 23, 1931.

Film’s plot & Characters

Bollywood star Ajay Devgn portrayed the role of Bhagat Singh on big screen while Sushant Singh, D. Santosh and Akhilendra Mishra played Sukhdev Thapar, Shivaram Rajguru and Chandra Shekhar Azad respectively. Raj Babbar, Farida Jalal and Amrita Rao were seen in supporting roles. The film showcased Bhagat Singh's life from his childhood where he witnesses the Jallianwala Bagh massacre until the day he was hanged to death—23 March 1931.

Direction, Dialogues & Screenplay

The film was directed by the most critically acclaimed and successful director, Rajkumar Santoshi who along with Piyush Mishra and Anjum Rajabali wrote the dialogues in the film. The film received much applause from the movie lovers for its direction, story and screenplay.

Awards

At the 50th National Film Awards, The Legend of Bhagat Singh won the Best Feature Film in Hindi and Devgn received the Best Actor award. Besides, the film won three Filmfare Awards from eight nominations.

Music

The soundtrack and score for The Legend of Bhagat Singh were composed by A. R. Rahman, marking his first collaboration with the director Rajkumar Santoshi. Sameer wrote the lyrics for the songs.
