The Indian hockey team won the Women's FIH Nations Cup 2022 final on Saturday with a 1-0 victory over Spain, securing their participation in the 2023–24 FIH Pro League.

A promotion to the Women's Pro League hockey for the next season was up for grabs for the winner of the Women's FIH Nations Cup, which had just concluded its inaugural season.

The Commonwealth Games bronze medalists finished the eight-nation tournament with five straight victories when Gurjit Kaur scored the game-winning goal in the sixth minute from the penalty corner.

The host nation made a brave effort in the 41st minute and appeared to have pushed through the Savita Punia-captained Indian defence. However, the goal was rejected. Udita, who scored the game-winning goal against Ireland in the semifinal, was handed a green card (a two-minute suspension) for a foul in the 45th minute, temporarily reducing the Indian team to 10 players. However, the Spanish team was unable to take advantage of the situation.

In their previous match between the two finalist teams, Spain defeated the women in blue by the same score at the FIH Women's World Cup in July of this year. India won five games in a row to complete an undefeated tournament.
