The actress, who celebrates her birthday on September 25, has often spoken openly about her childhood, family, struggles and the decisions that shaped her career. From secretly sending her photographs to a talent hunt to once signing around 20 films at the same time, Divya has revealed several stories that offer a closer look at the person behind the actress.

Divya secretly entered a talent hunt

Divya's journey into acting did not begin with a formal plan to enter Bollywood. In an interview with The Times of India, she revealed that she had secretly participated in a talent hunt when she was young. Her younger brother helped her by clicking her photographs, and her mother did not know about it initially.

“When I got selected I had to tell her,” Divya recalled. She then asked her mother if she would accompany her after her exams. Her mother's response became one of the most important moments of her life. She told Divya, “I don’t know what the future holds but I will always be there for you.” Divya said those words stayed with her and gave her the confidence to pursue acting.

Her first photoshoot was done by her brother

There is another charming detail behind that first talent hunt. Divya has revealed that her brother was the person behind her first-ever photoshoot. In an interview, she recalled that the siblings clicked the pictures secretly on their terrace and sent them for the talent hunt.

Looking back at those photographs today, Divya described the experience as something they considered extremely glamorous at the time. Her brother has also recalled the moment when their mother eventually discovered what they had done.

She once signed around 20 films

One of the biggest revelations about Divya's career came when she spoke about the period after Veer-Zaara. After struggling for work earlier in her career, she suddenly found herself receiving a large number of offers. Excited by the change, she ended up signing around 20 films.

“I remember I had taken up 20 odd films because there was a time when I didn’t have any. Suddenly, I was offered so many, so I took them all,” she told.

However, a conversation with filmmaker Aditya Chopra made her look at her career differently. When Divya proudly told him about the 20 films, he asked why she was taking on so much work when she did not need the money.

He then told her, “You are a very good actor, why don’t you leave a legacy behind?” Divya said the words “hit me hard”. She eventually returned the signing amounts for the films she had not started and decided to choose projects more carefully.

She realised why she kept saying yes

Divya later revealed that the decision to sign so many films was not only about money. She understood that the offers made her feel wanted after years of rejection.

Speaking to a national daily, she explained that every new offer made her feel good because it made her feel “wanted” and “in demand”. She realised she had been “almost overcompensating for the rejections” she had experienced earlier.

That realisation became an important turning point. Instead of simply accepting every opportunity, she began looking for work that genuinely interested her.

Huge Amitabh Bachchan fan

Long before she became an actress, Divya was already deeply fascinated by cinema. She has spoken about being an ardent Amitabh Bachchan fan while growing up and even recalled recreating the world of films at home.

In one interview, she said she would tear her mother's sarees, wear them, organise little performances and invite neighbourhood children to watch her dance. She also regularly read film magazines and dreamed about becoming a heroine.

Divya Dutta Continues To Shine 

Divya Dutta continues to shines with her outstanding performances. Her latest release, Last Man in Tower, hit theatres on September 11 and features her alongside Manoj Bajpayee and Boman Irani. The film is based on Aravind Adiga's novel and marks another character-driven project in Dutta's recent filmography.

She is also set to appear in Tum Rahe Na Tum, an upcoming psychological family drama starring Jimmy Shergill and directed by Prem Prakash Modi. The film is an adaptation of August Strindberg's The Father and focuses on complicated family relationships and emotional conflicts.
