IFFI 2023; Vidya Balan recalls 'The Dirty Picture' as she Remembers how she was warned for ruining her career!

During one of her session in the prestigious film festival of IFFI 2023, Vidya Balan was seen taking us through through the memory lane of 2011 when she has accessed through Silk Smitha's role in 'The Dirty Picture'. She recalled how she was earlier warned about the movie, wherein she was discouraged on ruining her budding career.

Vidya Balan is one of the most prolific actress of the Bollywood industry who has paved her starry way through some of the most accountable roles in the Indian cinema. Her most renown movies include Paa, Begum Jaan, Kahaani and many others. But what has led her astonishing career to an outshining ladder has to be Milan Luthria's 2011 movie 'The Dirty Picture'. Vidya as Silk Smitha has received some of the most mesmerizing critical reviews that eventually bought her the prestigious National Film Award. But the movie came with a a lot of discouragement, the actress revealed herself recently.

Vidya Balan talks about 'The Dirty Picture' 

With the ongoing 54th International Film Festival of India, the actress has made her warm attendance. During one of her session in the prestigious film festival, Vidya Balan was seen taking us through the memory lane of 2011 when she has accessed through Silk Smitha's role. She recalled how she was earlier warned about the movie, wherein she was discouraged on ruining her budding career. Referring to the same, she quoted "There were some people who told me, 'Are you sure? It's going to ruin your career. It may actually spell the end of your career because you know you have been Miss Goody two shoes."

Keeping her words in denial, she called off being labelled as 'Miss Goody two shows' as she was neither way doing many films during the period. Emphasizing her career as an actor, she opted 'The Dirty Picture' with zero hard feelings. During her session, she also recalled how the project has enthralled her as an actress, and said she didn't believe it when Milan Luthria approached her with the script. "The first time Milan Luthria came to me, mujhe laga ki, ‘Aap ghalat darwaaze pe toh nahi aagaye?’ Because I wouldn’t believe that someone would actually offer me this role," she stated. 

Remembering the phase of 2011, she uncovered how extremely enthusiastic her vision was while opting for a project. It was during those moments when she was open for doing challenging roles and break the labels people have conceived for her. "There was this burning desire to do things that people couldn’t imagine I could do but I knew I could do. I was thrilled to bits when the film came to me. I said yes instinctively," Balan quoted.

 

About 'The Dirty Picture' 

Directed by Milan Luthria, 'The Dirty Picture' is a 2011 biographical Bollywood musical drama based on the life of an actress, Silk Smitha, who was known for her notable erotic roles. Produced by Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor, the movie stars Vidya Balan, Naseeruddin Shah, Emraan Hashmi and Tusshar Kapoor. Amidst a controversial storyline, the movie was able to standalone as one of a kind movie of Bollywood that was ever made. The Dirty Picture has received 6 nomination in the 57th Filmfare Awards and 10 nominations in the 17th Screen Awards respectively. In additionally, the movie has won 6 Screen Awards and a National Film Award (best actress) by Vidya Balan.
