Journey of Rahim

The journey of Rahim's ascent to becoming India's legendary football coach commenced in 1943 when he assumed the role of secretary for the Hyderabad Football Association. Subsequently, he became the secretary of the Andhra Pradesh Football Association, where he contributed significantly to the game's infrastructure. His coaching career reached new heights when he took over as the coach for the Hyderabad City Police FC in 1950, a position he held until his passing in 1963.

Under Rahim's guidance, the team achieved unprecedented success, winning five consecutive Rovers Cups and reaching the finals of five Durand Cups, securing victory in three of them. Rahim's coaching prowess extended to the Santosh Trophy, the senior national championships, where his team secured consecutive championships, triumphing over Bombay in the finals.

The pinnacle of Rahim's illustrious career came when he assumed the role of manager for the Indian national football team in 1950. Tasked with training the team that toured Ceylon in 1949,  Rahimushered in the "golden era" of Indian football. The team's crowning achievement was the gold medal at the inaugural 1951 Asian Games in New Delhi.

During Rahim's tenure, the Indian football team achieved remarkable success, reaching the semi-finals of the 1956 Melbourne Olympics – an unparalleled feat for Indian football. Renowned players like Neville D’Souza, Samar Banerjee, P. K. Banerjee, and J. Krishnaswamy gained global recognition under Rahim's mentorship. His final triumph came at the 1962 Asian Games in Jakarta, where India secured gold by defeating South Korea in the finals.
