World earth Day 2024: Bhumi Pednekar and Oscar-Winner Michelle Yeoh Join UNDP's 'The Weather Kids' Campaign
Renowned actors Bhumi Pednekar from Bollywood and Michelle Yeoh, an Oscar-winning star, are teaming up for a global campaign to tackle climate change. The initiative, called 'The Weather Kids', is spearheaded by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
Bhumi Pednekar, known for her roles in Indian cinema and her activism on environmental issues, serves as UNDP India's first National Advocate for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). She collaborates with UNDP India to raise awareness and garner support for the SDGs, which aim to address poverty, protect the environment, and promote peace and prosperity by 2030.
'The Weather Kids' campaign aims to shed light on the impact of climate change on our daily lives, emphasizing how it will worsen over time. The campaign presents a fictional weather forecast for the year 2050, narrated by children. It concludes with a call to action, urging adults and world leaders to take urgent measures to combat climate change before it's too late.
Expressing her concern about climate change, Bhumi Pednekar stated, "I'm deeply disturbed by climate change and its global impact. I'm committed to raising awareness and have partnered with UNDP for their global campaign - The Weather Kids - to educate children about this pressing issue."
She emphasizes the urgency of addressing climate change, saying, "It is imperative that we all come together to confront this crisis. My involvement in this campaign is to highlight UNDP's efforts to spread awareness and drive real change."
Bhumi also stresses the importance of individual and collective action, stating, "I have always been committed to using my platform to raise awareness and empower communities to adopt sustainable practices. Together, we can make a difference and create a more sustainable world for future generations."
