Well, when Cannes is talked about, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is one of the foremost lady of the film festival who has been serving her presence ever since 2002. It is her aura that stole everyone's heart. The former Miss World, Aish made her Cannes debut in 2002 for the film Devdas where she paved her way on the red carpet alongside King Khan. The yellow riveting Neeta Lulla sari was a vision of iconicism, for someone who is not just making her attendance but also representing the whole country. She was in fact the first ever Indian actress to sit as a jury member during the same year. Ever since her memorable debutant, she has never missed a year and slowly people started referring to her as the 'Queen' of the Cannes Film Festival and of course, we all know why.
Bachchan's daughter-in-law has given some of the most iconic red carpet ensembles throughout the past year, like the one in 2017, where she turned into Cinderella in a blue Michael Cinco gown, or like the one in 2014 when Mrs. Bachchan gave us the ethereal Roberto Cavalli moment. Her 2018 look, left people's jaws dropped in a bluish purple butterfly-inspired gown. But after quite a few years, her aura started dooming in darkness as she lost her caliber in pulling off her fashion game like the legacy she has implanted ever since 2002. Yesterday, on 16th May 2024, Aishwarya made her first appearance at Cannes this year but we are left thunderstruck as she looked bad, really bad. Disappointing perhaps as it could easily be listed in the Top 10 worst looks of Cannes history. Well, we know this is not her first time serving a bad look, so let's look into some of her most gut-wrenching Cannes look ever.
The Purple Lips - Well, before 2024's awful avatar, the worst look of the iconic actress has had to be her 'pink gown purple lips' moment at the 69th Cannes Film Festival. It was so confusing that oftentimes people started calling it as the biggest fashion blunder in it's history. In fact, in no time, she became the trending headline of memes throughout the media outlets and received the worst possible response from the critics.
Unlike her 2023 green, her 2003 green was tacky. Paired with a floral blouse and golden jewelries, it did not look soothing with the red carpet. It was another sari look that she thought she could pull off easily but the color palette was off the track for yet another memorable outfit.
In 2019, Aish sported a large feather-adorned gown from Ashi Studio and it was no doubt dramatic, but the drama went in far vain when people started comparing her with a dry ice and some often bubble wraps. Well, Ashi Studio is known for some enthralling couture but the actress just didn't go well with the white swan-looking gown she opted for. With an all-white colorway (including shoes) and a hair bun with smokey eyes, she looked pale and dead.
In 2023, she took the drama a little too far, far beyond extreme, and made it a whopping blunder. The actress donned a shimmering silver gown from Sophie Couture with an attached hood that looked more like an alien. Crafted with a shimmery silhouette, the whole gown looked cheap and not to forget the humongous bow that was attached at her waistline.
To be very honest, Aish looks much better when her ensembles are simple and not so artsy.
