Geetika Vaidya as Paramjit Kaur oppsite Diljit Dosanjh in Satluj?
In Satluj, Geetika essays the role of Jaswant Singh Khalra's wife, Paramjit Kaur Khalra bringing emotional depth and quiet strength to a story rooted in one of Punjab's most significant human rights struggles. Sharing screen space with Diljit Dosanjh, who plays Khalra, the actress has received praise for her restrained yet impactful performance.
Rather than relying on dramatic expressions, Geetika portrays the emotional turmoil, resilience and unwavering support of a woman standing beside her husband during turbulent times. Her realistic acting style complements the film's serious subject, making her performance one of the most talked-about aspects of Satluj.
Who is Geetika Vaidya Ohlyan? One of India's promising actors
Originally from Haryana, Geetika Vidya Ohlyan has always stayed away from the glamour-driven side of the film industry. Instead, she has consistently chosen stories that highlight social issues and human emotions.
Before stepping into acting, Geetika focused on academics and graduated in English Literature from Delhi University's prestigious Kirori Mal College. It was during her college years that she discovered her passion for theatre after joining the renowned drama society, The Players.
Her theatre training became the foundation of her acting career. During this period, she not only performed on stage but also wrote scripts, directed plays and participated in numerous street theatre productions. These experiences helped shape the natural and grounded acting style she is known for today.
Strong foundation in theatre
Geetika's love for theatre goes far beyond college. She went on to perform in more than 300 shows of Zangoora – India's First Bollywood Musical, gaining valuable stage experience.
Apart from acting, she also lent her voice to commercial campaigns for brands such as Google and SpiceJet, showcasing her versatility as a performer. Her extensive theatre background continues to reflect in her understated screen presence and realistic performances.
Breakthrough with Soni and acclaimed performances
Geetika made her feature film debut with Soni (2018), where she played a Delhi police officer dealing with crimes against women. The film premiered at the Venice International Film Festival and received widespread international acclaim.
Soni went on to win the Best Film on Gender Equality award at the Mumbai Film Festival (MAMI) and the Best Film award at the Pingyao International Film Festival in China before releasing globally on Netflix.
She later appeared in Anubhav Sinha's Thappad (2020), another critically acclaimed social drama. Geetika also starred opposite Samuel Abiola Robinson in Dilli Dark, an internationally recognised film that explores themes of identity, acceptance and prejudice through humour and drama.
Across every project, she has built a reputation for portraying layered, realistic characters rather than conventional commercial roles.
Why Geetika's performance in Satluj stands out?
Unlike larger-than-life commercial films, Satluj demands emotional authenticity. Geetika delivers exactly that by portraying the quiet courage of a woman whose family is caught in extraordinary circumstances.
Her chemistry with Diljit Dosanjh and her ability to express grief, hope and resilience with subtlety have resonated with viewers. Many have described her performance as one of the emotional anchors of the film.
Controversy surrounding Satluj
Despite finally reaching audiences after years of delays and censorship-related hurdles, Satluj has once again become the centre of controversy.
The film premiered on ZEE5 on July 3, but was removed from the streaming platform in India within 48 hours. ZEE5 later announced that the film would remain unavailable until further notice.
The issue has since entered Punjab's political discourse, with both the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) commenting on the film's removal. SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal has announced plans to organise screenings of the film across villages and towns in Punjab, while AAP has criticised the takedown.
Meanwhile, reports suggest that the Central government is considering amendments to the Information Technology Act that could make certification mandatory for all films released for public viewing, including those premiering directly on OTT platforms. As the debate over Satluj continues, Geetika Vidya Ohlyan's heartfelt performance remains one of the film's biggest talking points, further cementing her position as one of India's most accomplished actors in meaningful cinema.
