66th Grammy Awards : Taylor Swift Makes Grammy History with Triple Nomination
In great news for music enthusiasts, the nominations for the upcoming 66th Grammy Awards were revealed on Friday morning. Notably, Taylor Swift, an immensely successful songwriter, made history with a remarkable number of Grammy nominations as an artist.
This year's front-runner is SZA, who leads with nine nominations, including recognition for 'Kill Bill' and SOS in the Record, Album, and Song of the Year categories. Other notable artists with multiple nods include Jack Antonoff, Jon Batiste, Boygenius, Brandy Clark, Miley Cyrus, Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, and Taylor Swift, each earning six nominations, while Phoebe Bridgers, Serban Ghenea, and Victoria Monet received seven.
Taylor Swift has had a phenomenal 2023 with her Eras Tour concerts, a blockbuster movie, and her new album "Midnights," which, as reported by Deadline, set a record in June when four of her albums were simultaneously released. Now, she has achieved a record by receiving the most nominations for any individual in the Song of the Year category.
According to reports, Taylor Swift is among five artists nominated in all three major categories this year – Record of the Year, Song of the Year ("Anti-Hero"), and Album of the Year ("Midnights"). This makes her eligible for her fourth Grammy in the album category, breaking a tie for third place with legends like Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder, and Paul Simon.
Other strong contenders for the top three categories include SZA, Batiste, Cyrus, Rodrigo, and Eilish. The Best New Artist category features talents like Gracie Abrams, Fred again.., Ice Spice, Jelly Roll, Coco Jones, Noah Kahan, Victoria Monet, and The War and Treaty.
The soundtrack of the movie "Barbie" is also making waves, with Dua Lipa's "Dance the Night" nominated for Song of the Year and Eilish's "What Was I Made For" for Record of the Year. The movie itself earned eleven nominations, including recognition for Best Rap Song and Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media.
Excitingly, the 66th Grammy Awards will introduce three new categories: Best Pop Dance Recording, Best Alternative Jazz Album, and Best African Music Performance. Additionally, a change in the voting process allows all Recording Academy members to participate in the Producer of the Year and Songwriter of the Year non-classical categories, now included in the General Field.
