Cannes 2014 line-up; 'The Second Act' to open the festival on 15th may including 'Megalopolis' to compete for Palme d'Or

When things are discussed about the biggest film festivals, Cannes is one of the most saought after film festival globally which is held annuary at Cannes city of France giving every upcoming films from the world a platform to be premiered including documentaries. This year too, the French rviera is coming back with the enthralling festival, 77th edition in the upcoming month that has been slatted to be commence from 14th May to 25th May, 2024. Recently, during a recent press conference, it's artistic director Thierry Frémaux and the president of the festival, Iris Knobloch has unveiled it's starry lineup which indeed catches attention of the masses. 

Films to be premiered at Cannes 2024

As per the reports, Quentin Dupieux’s latest film 'The Second Act' has been roped off to open the festival Wednesday 15. The starry long list also includes Francis Ford Coppola’s self financed movie 'Megalopolis' that will be premiered on Wednesday, 17th May which will also comepete for it's glorifying title Palme d'Or. Kevin Costner’s highly anticipated western Horizon: An American Saga is listed to be premiered on Friday, 19th May. 

George Lucas to be honored with Palme d'Or

One of the most awaited event of the upcoming ceremony has to be, George Lucas, the Star Wars creator who will be honored with the Palme d'Or. Meanwhile, it was Harrison Ford, who was given the same distinction last year inside the huge Théâtre Lumière during the premiere of 'Indiana Jones' and the 'Dial of Destiny.' Feeling overwhwhelmed with the honorary, Lucas expressed his graitude as he said, "The Festival de Cannes has always held a special place in my heart. I was surprised and elated when my first film, THX-1138, was selected to be shown in a new program for first time directors called the Directors’ Fortnight. Since then, I have returned to the festival on many occasions in a variety of capacities as a writer, director and producer. I am truly honored by this special recognition which means a great deal to me."

Meanwhile, Greta Gerwig will become an attention of the cinema realms as she will embark as the president of the Cannes jury, followed by the global acclamation for her film 'Barbie'. Revealing the news during the recently held press conference, Knobloch quipped "It's a great joy to welcome her this year, and that she accepted this responsibility." As per the Cannes president, the filmmaker emobies the energy and spirit of the festival. In-fact, she regards cinema with just 'love and respect.' "She is full of life and talent," says Knobloch.
