Neeraj Chopra sets new national record in javelin throw at Paavo Nurmi Games 2022

It was August 7, 2021, when Neeraj Chopra made India proud by clinching the first-ever Gold medal in athletics at Olympics. With a throw at 87.58m, Neeraj stunned the athletics world and ended India's 100-year wait for a track and field Gold medal in the Olympics. Besides, he has been proving his metal even today. Neeraj Chopra made a new national record in the javelin throw at Paavo Nurmi Games 2022, his first outing after Olympics.

Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra set a new national record and finished with a silver medal with a throw of 89.30m at the Paavo Nurmi Games 2022 in Finland.

With this, he also improved his own previous national record of 88.07 meters that he had clinched in Patiala in March last year. It was Neeraj Chopra's first outing in an International contest since his historic Gold medal-winning throw of 87.58 meters at the Tokyo Olympics.

With an 89.30m throw, he finished second on the podium at the Paavo Nurmi Games 2022 while the Finnish thrower Oliver Helander achieved a personal best of 89.93m.

Meanwhile, Grenada's world champion Anderson Peters stood at the third with a throw of 86.60m.

Chopra opened his throw with 86.92 meters and in the next throw, he got the mammoth 89.30 meters, just like he did in Olympics. On the other hand, Chopra's 89.30m Javelin throw took him to the fifth spot on the world season leaders' list.
