Kaka backs Diljit Dosanjh, says 'Support Sonam Wangchuk instead of Trolling Diljit Dosanjh'

Punjabi singer Kaka has come out in support of Diljit Dosanjh, who has been facing criticism on social media for not publicly supporting the ongoing Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest. While Diljit has remained silent on the issue, many users questioned why the singer has not spoken in favour of the movement despite being vocal during the Farmers' Protest.

Responding to the criticism, Kaka shared a heartfelt note on Instagram, asking people not to drag Diljit into the controversy. He said that Diljit has always stood for important causes in his own way and should not be judged for choosing not to speak publicly this time.

Kaka wrote that Diljit earned his respect through films like Punjab 1984, Udta Punjab, and his latest film Satluj. He also reminded people that Diljit had openly supported the Kisaan Andolan.

'Artists Cannot Share Everything Publicly'

In his Instagram Story, Kaka explained that artists often deal with situations they cannot discuss openly.

He wrote, "Diljeet is a great human being. He earned my respect with movies like Punjab 1984, Udta Punjab and now Satluj. He was very supportive in Kisaan Andolan too. Artists have to go through a lot they can't share publicly. Stop criticising him for not supporting CJP. Instead, support Sonam sir and others who are on hunger strike by joining the protest."

His statement has received mixed reactions online. While some praised Kaka for defending Diljit, others maintained that celebrities should use their influence to speak on important public issues.

Why Is Sonam Wangchuk on Hunger Strike?

Climate activist, engineer and education reformer Sonam Wangchuk is one of the leading faces of the ongoing movement. He is on a hunger strike to demand constitutional safeguards for Ladakh and to press the Central Government to fulfil its commitments to the region.

The protesters are demanding that Ladakh be included under the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution, which provides special protection to tribal areas by giving local communities greater control over their land, natural resources and cultural heritage.

Apart from the Sixth Schedule, the protesters are also demanding stronger environmental safeguards, protection of local jobs and land rights, and greater democratic representation, including a legislative assembly for Ladakh. They believe these measures are essential to preserve the region's fragile ecosystem and unique cultural identity.

Hunger Strike Enters 16th Day

The hunger strike at Jantar Mantar has now entered its 16th day. Protesters are also demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

According to the All India Students' Association (AISA), one of its student members participating in the fast had to be hospitalised after suffering from hypovolemic shock, a serious condition caused by severe loss of body fluids.

Meanwhile, Sonam Wangchuk, who has been fasting alongside the protesters, has reportedly lost 8.25 kilograms since the hunger strike began. Organisers from the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) said his health has deteriorated significantly, raising concerns among supporters as the indefinite fast continues.

Kaka Shifts the Focus to the Protest

Rather than questioning Diljit Dosanjh's silence, Kaka urged people to focus on those risking their health for the cause. He appealed to the public to support Sonam Wangchuk and the hunger strikers by joining the protest instead of targeting celebrities.

His message has shifted the conversation from social media criticism to the larger issues being raised by the protesters. At the same time, it has reignited the debate over whether public figures are obligated to comment on every social and political movement or should have the freedom to decide when and how they express their views.
