Carry On Jatta 3: Gippy Grewal, Sonam Bajwa starrer lands in Legal Trouble; Hurt 'Hindu Sentiments'
Carry On Jatta 3, directed by Smeep Kang, has emerged as a resounding success at the box office, delighting audiences with its entertaining storyline. However, the film now finds itself embroiled in a controversy as a written complaint has been filed against the director and actors, including Gippy Grewal, Sonam Bajwa, Binnu Dhillon, Jaswinder Bhalla, and Gurpreet Ghuggi.
The complaint alleges that the movie has offended the religious sentiments of millions of Hindus. Ishant Sharma, the president of the Youth committee of Shiv Sena Hind, and Sunil Kumar, the Chairman of Punjab Shiv Sena (Taksali), have taken the matter to the Jalandhar police station.
In an interview with a news agency, Sunil Kumar explained that they lodged the complaint on behalf of Shiv Sena Hind. He specifically pointed out a scene in the movie where a Brahmin performing Havan rituals is portrayed in a "humiliating manner."
Sunil Kumar, Gippy Grewal, Binnu Dhillon, and Gurpreet Ghuggi have allegedly shown disrespect towards the beliefs of millions of Hindus by pouring water on the Havan Kund, which is considered an essential ritual in Hinduism. Seeking appropriate action, they demanded that section 295 be imposed on the filmmakers for hurting religious sentiments.
Sunil Kumar further criticized the individuals involved, accusing them of targeting the Hindu religion for the sake of gaining popularity. He expressed his concern that if a similar scene had portrayed any other caste in such a manner, the consequences would have been severe, potentially leading to destruction or arson. Sunil emphasized the peaceful nature of Hinduism and highlighted that they approached the government first for intervention. If no action is taken within 24 hours, they plan to protest outside the residences of director Smeep Kang and Gurpreet Ghuggi.
Meanwhile, Carry On Jatta 3 has enjoyed an impressive opening day at the box office, earning a remarkable Rs. 4.30 crore. The film's success has continued with consistently strong earnings. Sonam Bajwa, one of the lead actors, expressed her gratitude to the film's fans for surpassing box office expectations. In a heartfelt note, she acknowledged the film's accomplishment as breaking stereotypes about the limited reach and audience of Punjabi cinema. She credited the victory to the Punjabi film audience and supporters worldwide, emphasizing that it belonged to them as well. Carry On Jatta 3 was released in theaters on June 29 and has since been making waves in the industry.
