Ramoji Rao, the chairman of the Eenadu media group and founder of Ramoji Film City, has passed away. He breathed his last early Saturday morning while receiving treatment at Star Hospital in Hyderabad. He was 87. Rao's legacy is extensive, including many successful business ventures and media productions.

Celebs Pay Their Last Respect to Ramoji Rao

Among the mourners were filmmaker SS Rajamouli and music composer MM Keeravani, who arrived at the Film City to offer prayers for the departed soul. Ramoji Rao, 87, passed away on Saturday morning while undergoing treatment at Star Hospital in Hyderabad, Telangana.

Rao's legacy is monumental. He was the driving force behind numerous successful business ventures and media productions. Under his stewardship, Eenadu became a powerhouse in Telugu media. His entrepreneurial spirit extended to the establishment of Usha Kiran Movies, Mayuri Film Distributors, Margadarsi Chit Fund, and the Dolphin Group of Hotels. He also led the ETV Network, a significant entity in the television landscape.

In recognition of his contributions, Rao was honored with the Padma Vibhushan, India's second-highest civilian award, in 2016 by then-President Pranab Mukherjee.

The news of his passing sparked an outpouring of grief and tributes on social media. Actor NTR Jr expressed his sorrow on X, writing in Telugu, "Visionaries like Sri Ramoji Rao are one in a million. A media tycoon and a giant of Indian cinema, his absence is irreparable. The news that he is no longer with us is very sad. I will never forget the memories when I was introduced to the Telugu film industry with the film 'Ninnu Choodalani'. May his soul rest in peace and convey my deepest condolences to his family."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid tribute on X, highlighting Rao's revolutionary contributions to journalism and the film industry. "He was a visionary who revolutionized Indian media. His rich contributions have left an indelible mark on journalism and the world of films. Through his noteworthy efforts, he set new standards for innovation and excellence in the media and entertainment world," the Prime Minister wrote.

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) supremo N Chandrababu Naidu offered floral tributes and shared a heartfelt note on social media. "The death of Ramoji Rao, who was born into an ordinary family and achieved extraordinary achievements, caused great grief. As an Akshara Yodha, Ramoji rendered many services to the Telugu states and the country. His death is a great loss not only for the Telugu people but for the country as well. His fame for working tirelessly for the welfare of society is eternal," Naidu said.

Ramoji Rao's indomitable spirit and visionary leadership have left a lasting impact on Indian media and beyond. His legacy continues to inspire, reminding us of the heights one can reach through dedication and innovation.
