PM Modi Meets Oscar-Winning Team of 'The Elephant Whisperers' Documentary

On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with the team of The Elephant Whisperers, India's first-ever winner in the Documentary Short Subject category at the 95th Academy Awards. The film explores the bond between humans and an abandoned elephant calf in a Tamil Nadu sanctuary, directed by Kartiki Gonsalves and produced by Guneet Monga.

During the meeting, PM Modi congratulated the team for their historic win and acknowledged the documentary's cinematic brilliance, which has garnered global recognition and acclaim. He also tweeted about the meeting, sharing pictures with the team and their Oscar trophies.

The Elephant Whisperers had its world premiere at the DOC NYC Film Festival on November 9, 2022, before being globally released on Netflix on December 8, 2022. The short film celebrates the bond between humans and animals, highlighting the efforts of an indigenous couple who take care of an orphaned baby elephant named Raghu, ensuring its survival and growth into a healthy juvenile. The documentary also showcases the rich flora and fauna of India and explores the life of tribal people living in harmony with nature.
