Renowned Singer Ustad Rashid Khan Passes Away at 55
Ustad Rashid Khan dies: The world of music mourns the loss of Ustad Rashid Khan, a prominent classical singer known for his soul-stirring melodies. The 55-year-old artist, belonging to the Rampur-Sahaswan Gharana, breathed his last while being on ventilator support. His health got worse due to prostate cancer, leading to his admission to a private hospital in Kolkata last month.
Ustad Rashid Khan had previously sought treatment at the Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital but chose to continue his medical journey in Kolkata as his condition became critical.
Born in Badayun, Uttar Pradesh, Rashid Khan's musical journey began under the guidance of his maternal grand-uncle, Ustad Nissar Hussain Khan. Additionally, he was the nephew of Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan, who played a crucial role in recognizing and nurturing Rashid Khan's early musical talents.
Ghulam Mustafa Khan, his uncle, provided initial training in Mumbai, while the foundational teachings came from Nissar Hussain Khan at his residence in Badayun. Rashid Khan's musical prowess shone through, and he went on to create beautiful compositions for Bollywood, leaving an indelible mark on the industry.
Some of his notable contributions include the enchanting "Aaoge Jab Tum Saajna" from "Jab We Met," the soulful "Allah Hi Rahem" from "My Name is Khan," and the heartfelt "Poore se zara sa" from "Mausam." Ustad Rashid Khan's departure leaves a void in the world of music, but his legacy will continue to resonate through the timeless melodies he gifted to us.
