Aditya Chopra will direct a Broadway musical adaptation of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge
It's time to fall in love all over again with 'Come Fall in Love - The DDLJ Musical,' which will open on Broadway in 2022-2023, with a World Premiere in September 2022 at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego.
Prepare to relive the thrill of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge's romance, as the film's director, Aditya Chopra, has announced that the film would be turned into a Broadway musical.

Aditya Chopra is set to direct DDLJ for the first time in 26 years, and it will be his Broadway debut. Because of their underlying similarities, the filmmaker believes Broadway and Indian cinema are "two long lost lovers separated in time," since both celebrates heart-warming stories and human emotions through music and dance. Aditya has been working on this passion project for the past three years, assembling a brilliant, incredibly diverse crew that includes some of Broadway's and India's best performers.

Yash Raj Films is producing 'Come Fall in Love - The DDLJ Musical'. The musical will be based on an original story by Chopra and will have Laurence Oliver Award-winning book and lyrics by Nell Benjamin (Legally Blonde, Mean Girls), as well as composers Vishal Dadlani and Shekhar Ravjiani. Rob Ashford (Frozen, Thoroughly Modern Millie, The Boys from Syracuse) and associate choreographer Shruti Merchant (Frozen, Thoroughly Modern Millie, The Boys from Syracuse) will choreograph.
Set design by Emmy and Tony Award winner Derek McLane (Moulin Rouge!, Hairspray Live!, 33 Variations) and music supervision by Tony, Grammy, and Emmy Award winner Bill Sherman will round out the creative team (In The Heights, Sesame Street, Hamilton). The project's Executive Producer is Adam Zotovich.
"DDLJ was my introduction to Indian filmmaking before I even knew who the brilliant Aditya Chopra was, and the movie had such excitement and heart that I fell in love with it," Nell Benjamin said in a statement, excited about the partnership.“ I was ecstatic to be asked to be a part of the musical, and I hope that my work inspires people to fall in love with Simran and Raj and their journey of love across countries. The world could always use a little more cultural awareness, and I can't wait to share the delight and surprise of Come Fall in Love - The DDLJ Musical with an audience."

Come Fall in Love – The DDLJ Musical will premiere at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego in September 2022 and will run on Broadway from 2022 to 2023. Duncan Stewart of Stewart/Whitley casting and Yash Raj Films casting head Shanoo Sharma will lead a global casting hunt.
Aditya Chopra made his directorial debut in 1995 with the legendary romance film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, which stars Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol and is still showing in Mumbai theatres.
