Alia Bhatt's 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' to be nominated for Oscars? Alia Bhatt is indeed having a gala time, both personally and professionally. The soon-to-be mother, who has one of the finest performances of her career in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Gangubai Kathiawadi', bagged a lot of appreciation for her recently released Netflix film' Darlings'.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s directorial ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi,’ featuring Alia Bhatt in the lead role, was one of the biggest blockbusters of 2022. It is pertinent to mention that only a few of the films have worked well this year.

Alia Bhatt essayed the role of 'Gangubai', one of the most powerful and respected madams from Mumbai’s red-light area 'Kamathipura' during the late 1960s.

The film was delayed multiple times due to the situation that prevailed out of the coronavirus that hit India in March 2020. Still, the film turned out to be a huge hit when it was released in February 2022.

The film garnered positive reviews and responses from the audience and critics. In the meanwhile, ETimes has reported that 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' is one of the few films to be in contention for India’s official entry to the Oscars this year.

Notably, the film had its world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival. Alia Bhatt's performance garnered an eight-minute standing ovation. It may be recalled that Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Devdas' (2002), featuring Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai, was chosen as India’s official entry to the Oscars back then.
