Bollywood celebs express condolences for Pandit Birju Maharaj; Madhuri Dixit pens a heartfelt note

Pandit Birju Maharaj, a well-known Kathak dancer who created a reputation for himself all over the world with his Kathak skill, has died. At the age of 83, he breathed his last late Sunday night. Birju Maharaj passed away as a result of a heart attack. On February 4, 1938, he was born in Lucknow. Pandit Brijmohan Mishra was his true name. He was a classical singer and a Kathak dancer.

His Kathak dance had the entire globe enthralled. Pandit Birju Maharaj choreographed for Hindi films and taught his dance to a number of actresses. Pandit Birju Maharaj choreographed dance for films such as Dedh Ishqiya, Devdas, and Bajirao Mastani, all of which are regarded landmarks in Hindi cinema.

Satyajit Ray's 1977 film 'Shatranj Ke Khiladi' launched Pandit Birju Maharaj's career in Hindi cinema.

Pandit Birju Maharaj collaborated with Deepika Padukone in addition to Madhuri Dixit. In the 2015 film directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Birju Maharaj choreographed the song "Mohe Rang Do Lal" for Bajirao Mastani.

"He has left behind grieving fans and students but also left a legacy we will all carry forward. Thank you Maharajji for everything you taught me in dance along with humility, elegance, and grace." Madhuri Dixit expressed her condolences for Pandit Birju Maharaj.

Pandit Birju Maharaj has also taught his dance to Kamal Haasan, the star of South Indian film. From the actor's film Vishwaroopam, Birju Maharaj choreographed the song "Unnao Kanadhu Nani." Kamal Haasan's Kathak dance in this song was phenomenal.
