Padma Awards 2026: From Dharmendra to R Madhavan; cinema icons receive prestigious honour
India is once again preparing to celebrate some of its finest achievers as the prestigious Padma Awards 2026 will be conferred by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, at the iconic Rashtrapati Bhavan on May 25, 2026. Regarded as one of the country’s highest civilian honours, the Padma Awards recognize extraordinary contributions across diverse fields including art, literature, science, medicine, sports, cinema, public affairs and social service.
The Civil Investiture Ceremony promises to be a memorable occasion, bringing together distinguished personalities, senior ministers, dignitaries and celebrated achievers from across the country.
This year, the President has approved a total of 131 Padma Awards. The list includes:
Among the awardees are 19 women recipients, reflecting the growing recognition of women’s contributions in various fields. The honours also include 16 posthumous awards, paying tribute to individuals whose work left a lasting impact on society even after their passing. The list further features recipients from the categories of foreigners, NRIs, PIOs and OCIs, highlighting the global reach of Indian talent and influence.

The Padma Awards 2026 have a strong representation from the world of Indian cinema, with several iconic names being honoured for their lifelong contribution to entertainment and culture.
Veteran Hindi cinema legend Dharmendra will be honoured posthumously with the Padma Vibhushan. Revered as one of Indian cinema’s greatest stars, Dharmendra delivered unforgettable performances in classics like Sholay, Chupke Chupke and Phool Aur Patthar. His powerful screen presence and timeless charm continue to inspire generations of actors and film lovers alike.
Actor R. Madhavan, fondly known as “Maddy”, has been selected for the Padma Shri. Over the years, Madhavan has built a strong connection with audiences through memorable films like Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein, 3 Idiots and Rocketry: The Nambi Effect. His directorial venture Rocketry also earned him a National Award in 2023, further cementing his place among India’s finest performers.
Celebrated playback singer Alka Yagnik will receive the Padma Bhushan for her immense contribution to Indian music and cinema. Her soulful voice has defined Bollywood music for decades, making her one of the most beloved singers in the country.
Malayalam cinema icon Mammootty will also receive the Padma Bhushan. With a career spanning several decades and films across Malayalam, Tamil and Hindi cinema, Mammootty remains one of India’s most respected actors. He had earlier been awarded the Padma Shri in 1998.
Late actor Satish Shah will receive the Padma Shri posthumously. Famous for his impeccable comic timing, Satish Shah became a household name through television shows like Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi and FIR. He also entertained audiences through films such as Main Hoon Na, Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! and Mujhse Shaadi Karogi.
Veteran Bengali actor Prosenjit Chatterjee has been selected for the Padma Shri. A towering figure in Bengali cinema, Prosenjit has acted in more than 350 films over a remarkable career of nearly five decades.
Veteran theatre and film actor Anil Kumar Rastogi will receive the Padma Shri for his contribution to theatre, cinema, science and academia. He is known for films like Ishaqzaade, Thappad and Mulk.
Veteran actor and director Arvind Vaidya is another Padma Shri recipient this year. With over six decades of work in theatre and film, he continues to entertain audiences through his role as Hasmukh “Babuji” Shah in the popular television show Anupamaa.
The grand Civil Investiture Ceremony (Part-1) will take place on Monday, May 25, 2026, at 5:00 PM at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.
