'We are sending wrong movies to Oscars' says AR Rahman; details inside

Rahman said that the development in technology was what had transformed the traditional method of writing music, which involved a large orchestra and a number of musicians. As a result of my expertise in jingles, I had 16 tracks available to me at the time, which allowed me to achieve a lot with the eight tracks available for films at the time. Simply put, no one gave it any consideration. All the large instruments shrunk in size, yet everyone desired depth, and the orchestra was expensive.

I thus joined during a time when technology was changing. I had plenty of time to try things out and fail. Because everything took place in the studio, nobody knew about my failure; they could only see my success. We kept doing it and returning. Thus, the freedom I gained from having a home studio," the composer stated.

Rahman continued, "Sometimes, I notice that our movies get all the way to the Oscars... they don't win. The Oscars are receiving the wrong movies. And I'm simply like, DON'T. We have to put ourselves in another person's shoes. To understand what is happening, I must put myself in the position of a Westerner. To understand what they are doing, I have to put myself in their position.

India has indeed won two Oscars for Best Original Song (Naatu Naatu) and Best Documentary Short (The Elephant Whisperers).
