As their paths crossed again in the film "Zanjeer," their relationship took a significant turn. Their friendship gradually evolved into love, leading them to make the momentous decision of marriage. However, before their union could be solemnized, Amitabh presented a condition to Jaya. This revelation came directly from Jaya Bachchan herself during a podcast hosted by her daughter-in-law, Navya Naveli Nanda. Jaya disclosed that Amitabh expressed his desire for her to not work continuously. She shared, "Initially, we had planned to marry in October, as my workload would have reduced by then. However, he told me, 'I want a wife who works only from 9 to 5. She can work, but not every day.' He chooses his projects and collaborates with the right people." Eventually, their wedding took place in a modest ceremony at Jaya's godmother's residence in Mumbai. Jaya further revealed that she conveyed Amitabh's conditions to her parents. After initial hesitation, her parents eventually approved of the marriage, and on the 3rd of June, they tied the knot in a simple yet heartfelt manner.
