Deepika Padukone To Portray Acid Attack Survivor Laxmi Agarwal On Screen
After impressing the audience with her acting skills in films like “Baajirao Mastani”, “Padmaavat” and “Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela” among others, actress Deepika Padukone will now portray the role of an acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal on screen.
According to a media report published in Mumbai Mirror, Deepika, besides acting, will also be co-producing the film. “Talvar” fame Meghna Gulzar will be directing the yet-to-be titled film based on the real life story of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal.
"When I heard this story, I was deeply moved as it’s not just one of violence but of strength and courage, hope and victory. It made such an impact on me, that personally and creatively, I needed to go beyond and so the decision to turn producer,” Mumbai Mirror quoted Deepika as saying.
Laxmi was attacked by a man in 2005 after she rejected his marriage proposal. She was one of the winners of the US State Department’s International Women of Courage Award in 2014. She also hosted a few episodes of a TV show, and walked the ramp at London Fashion Week in 2016.
