Do you know that he has done theatre? Yes, that’s right. In fact, he started his career with theatres. Here’s his story: In the beginning, he was given the role of being a part of the crowd, with no dialogue but he would attend all the rehearsals diligently. He used to be the first person to reach on the sets, wait, observe and grasp. He used to help other artists in rehearsals by giving them scripts.

One day, the main actor of the show didn’t turn up and he grabbed it as an opportunity as he knew all the lines. And that turned out to be a breakthrough for him. From then onwards, there was no looking back. He then went on to master the ‘A-Z’ of theatre.

Then in 1997, when India was preparing for the celebrations of 50th Independence Day, he was offered to create the first ever Punjabi multimedia sound and light show — Aazaadi De Taraaney —which was premiered at the Red Fort.

Later, he became a journalist. When there were no modern computers back in the 80s and 90s, everyone used to type stories on typewriters and give those to the operators. While the process consumed a lot of manpower, Rabindra Narayan used to reach early in the morning; do the story, go to the dark room, print the galleys, print the negatives, and get it onto a metal sheet that used to be sent to press for printing. The process involved so many departments and manpower but he did it all himself.

Considered the Father of Punjabi Satellite Television, Rabindra Narayan led the team that launched the first-ever Punjabi satellite channel, Punjabi World in 1998. He is known to put the holy Gurbani on the World’s television map. The team, under his leadership, started beaming Gurbani Kirtan from Sri Darbar Sahib, Amritsar, in 1998.

Likewise, he was the General Secretary of Collegiate Drama Society which staged over 2000 shows. He was the Acting Editor with ‘The Weekly SUN’ in the early 90s besides he was also the Culture Editor with Sunday Mail.

Later, he entered the television industry in the late 90s. He founded ETC PUNJABI besides being the Business Head of ZEE PUNJABI & ALPHA ETC PUNJABI. And then, he became the Founder, Managing Director & President of G Next Media Pvt. Ltd. Under his guidance, PTC Network is operating 7 Television channels, 97 Facebook pages, and Audio label (PTC Records), a film production company PTC Motion Pictures and a Virtual Reality portal.

A winner of many awards, Rabindra Narayan is a pure, humble soul who touched many lives and inspired them.
